Have you heard about this flu going around Korea? It’s no joke

I’ve been coughing for more than a month now — and honestly, it’s been exhausting.
It started with just a sore throat and a light dry cough, so I thought it was just a cold. But then the cough wouldn’t go away. It got worse, especially at night, and I was waking up coughing. I felt tired all the time.

I went to the pharmacy multiple times and tried all kinds of medicine — cough syrup, lozenges, cold tablets, herbal stuff — but nothing really worked. I just kept hoping it would get better on its own… it didn’t.

After talking to others and doing some research, I found out it’s not just “a flu” — there are actually several viruses spreading in Korea right now:

🔸 Adenovirus – Can cause fever, sore throat, and long-lasting cough.
🔸 Influenza (Type A/B) – Usually a winter virus, but it’s oddly active now.
🔸 Mycoplasma pneumonia – A bacterial infection that causes dry, persistent coughing. Normal cold meds don’t help — it needs antibiotics.
🔸 COVID-19 – Still around, even if symptoms are mild. A lingering cough can be one of them.

If your symptoms last more than a few days or get worse — please go to a hospital. Don’t do what I did and try to wait it out. It’s not just “a simple cold.” A lot of people I know are going through the same thing, and many needed antibiotics or prescription treatment.

Also, please wear a mask when you’re out in crowded areas, and don’t ignore even “small” symptoms. Washing your hands regularly and getting enough rest really helps too.

Let’s all take care of ourselves and look out for one another. I hope everyone feels better soon 🙏

How to Save Money While Shopping in Korea

If you’ve been living in Korea for a while, you might’ve already discovered this.

One of the best little tricks to save money is visiting places like Homeplus or E-Mart later in the evening, especially after 8:30 PM. That’s when they start putting discount stickers on lots of fresh items — from dosirak (lunch boxes) to fried chicken, sushi rolls, salads, fruit, and even desserts. Sometimes you can get up to 50% off, just because it’s close to closing time. It’s a smart move if you’re not picky and just want a quick, cheap meal.

Another tip — if you have an Alien Registration Card (ARC), you can sign up for store memberships. Places like Homeplus, Olive Young, Daiso, and even convenience stores offer member prices, and you often get points or extra discounts. Usually, all you need is a Korean phone number and your ARC. Some places let you sign up via app.

And don’t forget to keep an eye out for those yellow or red discount stickers when you're shopping. They’re not just random labels — that’s your cue that something’s on sale, especially bakery stuff or side dishes.

It’s little things like this that make life in Korea a bit more affordable, especially if you're a student or just trying to stretch your monthly budget.

So next time you’re heading home at night, maybe swing by your local supermarket — you might just score dinner for half the price.

Lots of Bugs Lately

As the weather gets warmer and more humid, a lot of bugs have been showing up lately, especially a type of insect Koreans call "Love Bugs" (사랑벌레).

These tiny flying insects often appear in pairs stuck together, flying around lights and windows — that's why people call them “Love Bugs”!
They don’t bite, but they can be annoying and sometimes leave stains when squashed.

To help keep your room clean and bug-free, please remember:

Throw away food waste promptly
Rinse drink bottles and containers instead of leaving them out
Keep windows closed or use screens, especially in the evening
Use bug spray or traps if needed
Avoid leaving lights on with windows open at night — it attracts them!

I SAW MY ULTIMATE BIAS LIVE AND I’M STILL NOT OK 😭💖

Okay, where do I even begin?! I went to [insert J-Hope’s concert last night and OMG… it was everything I dreamed of and MORE. From the second the lights went down and that first beat dropped, I was screaming, crying, shaking—full body chills 😭🔥

My heart DROPPED when his intro hit — that familiar beat, the stadium chanting “HOPE… HOPE…” — I felt it in my bones. j‑hope walked on stage with that same boundless energy we all adore 💃✨

wo days after his discharge, Jungkook surprised everyone with “SEVEN” and a duet of “I Wonder” alongside j‑hope. The moment Jungkook appeared, it was pure pandemonium. I SOBBED. The synergy was unreal — fans were spamming ARMY Twitter with “HOPEKOOK” as it all went down

The VCRs, the outfits, the energy—10/10. No, actually 100/10. My throat hurts, my feet hurt, my heart hurts… but in the best way. I laughed, I cried, I screamed like I was possessed. And I’d do it all again tomorrow. 🫶

In conclusion: Best. Night. EVER. If you get a chance to see them live—GO. No questions. Sell a kidney if you must (jk… mostly).

My South Korea Trip 🇰🇷

Visiting South Korea was one of the most exciting and eye-opening experiences I’ve had! As a South Asian traveler, I definitely stood out—but in a good way. People were curious but kind, and though English wasn’t widely spoken everywhere, translation apps made life easier.

Seoul was vibrant and full of energy—modern but deeply rooted in tradition. Busan had chill beach vibes, and Jeju Island was just stunning. I loved the street food (tteokbokki is 🔥), though I’ll admit, I started missing desi spices after a few days. If you're vegetarian or need halal food, definitely plan ahead—it’s doable, but limited outside big cities.

Public transport was super clean and efficient. Shopping was a dream, especially for skincare, though fashion sizes were mostly petite.

Overall, South Korea was fun, safe, and totally worth it. If you love culture, history, K-pop, or just exploring something new—go for it. Just pack a bit of masala, and you’ll be fine 😉

🚕 Taxi Tips for Traveling in Korea 🇰🇷

Taking taxis in Korea is generally safe, convenient, and more affordable than in many other countries—but there are a few things you should know to make the most of it!

🔹 Types of Taxis
There are different taxi types:

Regular Taxis (orange or silver): most common and cheapest.

Deluxe Taxis (black with a yellow sign): more spacious and comfortable, but pricier.

Van Taxis: for groups or lots of luggage.

🔹 How to Catch a Taxi
You can hail one on the street (just look for the red “빈차” sign, meaning available) or use apps like:

Kakao T (the most popular in Korea, works like Uber)

T Map Taxi
Apps offer English support, fare estimates, and safe payment options.

🔹 Payments
Most taxis accept:

Credit cards & T-money cards (transportation card)

Cash (KRW)
No tipping needed—fares are final.

🔹 Language Barrier?
Many taxi drivers speak limited English. Show them your destination written in Korean, or enter it directly in an app like Kakao T. Some newer taxis even have translation screens or navigation apps.

🔹 Airport Taxis
At Incheon or Gimhae Airport, look for official taxi stands. Avoid drivers who approach you inside the terminal—they’re often unlicensed and overpriced.

🔹 Safety & Convenience
Taxis are safe even late at night. For extra security, use taxi apps so your ride is tracked. Receipts are also available upon request (useful if you leave something behind!).

🔹 Pro Tip
If you’re staying long-term or plan to travel often by taxi, downloading the Kakao T app is a lifesaver. You can even book rides in advance, track your driver, and see the fare ahead of time.

—

Taxis in Korea are reliable and easy to use once you know how they work. Whether you’re heading home after a long day of sightseeing or trying to catch an early train, taxis can save time and energy! 🧳🚖

I went to musical in Korea for the first time last month and it was so gorgeous!!!
I watched Aladdin, which is very classic and everyone knows the story. It was so touching cause the actors and actress we're amazing, and the dancing and performance is beyond imagination. Believe it or not I even cried in the theater.

It was fun to listen to the songs in Korean.

Shout out to the Genie, humorous and cute!

Definitely a magic carpet ride, I heard that they are going to Busan, so don't miss it!

good service in chingumobile

During my recent journey, chingumobile provided me with great convenience and support, becoming an indispensable part of the entire trip. First of all, the SIM card service they provided enables me to keep in touch with the outside world at any time. Whether you are looking for a destination on the city streets or need to urgently contact friends and family, a stable Internet connection is particularly important. Besides, this SIM card also helps me easily use various navigation applications, query information and enjoy online entertainment, making the journey smoother and more pleasant.

In addition to communication support, chingumobile also offers a very considerate service - luggage storage. For travelers like me who frequently travel between different places, this service is simply a godsend. For example, on a way back to the hotel from a scenic spot once, due to the tight schedule, I couldn't return to my accommodation in time to store my heavy luggage. At this point, the nearby chingumobile store solved my urgent problem. Their storage service was safe and reliable, and the staff were friendly and professional, allowing me to travel light and continue exploring the local culture and scenery.

blue house

The Blue House, as the political center and historical landmark of South Korea, has always attracted the attention of many tourists. I was fortunate enough to visit this place with profound historical and cultural heritage. The whole process was impressive.

The architectural style of the Blue House integrates traditional and modern elements, showcasing the unique cultural charm of South Korea. Its history can be traced back to the Goryeo Dynasty, when the foundation was already laid. During the Joseon Dynasty, this place became one of the important venues of the royal family. Today, the Blue House is not only the office and residence of the president of South Korea, but also a cultural heritage open to the public. Through the visit, I felt more profoundly the historical significance carried by this place.

During the visit, the tour guide gave a detailed introduction to each area of the Blue House and the stories behind them. For instance, the design inspiration of the main building comes from the traditional roof style of South Korea, while every tree and every stone in the courtyard has been carefully arranged, embodying the concept of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. In addition, there are also some exhibitions showcasing the working photos and important documents of successive leaders. These precious materials have enabled people to have a more intuitive understanding of the country's development process.

For those who are fond of history and culture, the Blue House is undoubtedly a very interesting and worthwhile place to explore. Both the building itself and the historical value it represents are so captivating that people are reluctant to leave. This visit not only broadened my horizons but also deepened my interest in the stories of this land. If you also have the chance to visit South Korea, why not take a walk in person and experience the unique charm brought by this complex of buildings full of stories?

Rain, Fog, and a Little Bit of Peace

I went to Busan last weekend hoping to enjoy the ocean views, but the whole city was covered in thick fog — I could barely even see the sea! 😵 💫

In Korea, June and July are the official monsoon season (장마철), which means not only frequent rain, but also lots of foggy days. The air gets super humid and visibility can be really low, so it’s important to be extra cautious when going out.

🔹 Don’t forget your umbrella! ☔
🔹 Wear non-slip shoes — the roads can get really slippery.
🔹 If you're planning to visit mountains or the seaside, make sure to check the weather in advance. Safety first!

That said, fog is still part of nature’s beauty. Even if we can’t see the distant views, foggy landscapes have their own mysterious charm. 🌫️🌿 Sometimes, walking through a quiet, misty city can feel calming in its own way.

🌈 So even during rainy, foggy days, try to keep your spirits up!
Take things slow, enjoy some warm pancakes or soup — little comforts that make this season special. 🥞🍲

Stay safe and take care this rainy season!

Have You Tried the Mega Cup Bingsoo from Mega Coffee Yet? 🍧🔥

Just wanted to share my recent discovery — Mega Coffee’s new “Mega Cup Bingsoo” and OMG it’s so good! 😍

It’s basically a cup-sized bingsoo (shaved ice dessert), but don’t let the size fool you — it’s loaded with toppings. Mine had sweet red bean gelato, chewy rice cakes, cereal crunch, and condensed milk over milky shaved ice. Seriously, for only around 4,400 KRW, it felt like a mini hotel-style bingsoo. Total game changer for summer!

I went to grab one after seeing a line outside the shop (yes, it’s that popular right now), and they told me it’s selling out fast — some places are out within 30 minutes of opening 😱. Apparently, it already hit 1.8 million cups sold since launch. No wonder it’s all over Instagram and TikTok.

If you’re a fan of sweet desserts or just need a cool treat on a hot day, I highly recommend it. Just make sure to go early or call the shop first — some stores sell out quick.

Anyone else tried it? Thoughts? Let’s talk bingsoo 😋💬

Seoul's 2025 Food Trends: A Fusion of Innovation, Health, and Heritage

Seoul, a city known for its dynamic culture and rich culinary history, is currently experiencing a fascinating evolution in its food scene. In 2025, food trends in the Korean capital reflect a blend of traditional values, global influences, and modern technology, all while prioritizing health and sustainability.

1. Health-Conscious Korean Cuisine

With growing awareness of wellness, there's a rising demand for healthier versions of traditional Korean dishes. Low-sodium kimchi, plant-based bibimbap, and vegan japchae are now common offerings in many restaurants. Fermented foods like kimchi and doenjang (soybean paste) are being rebranded as probiotic-rich superfoods, appealing to both locals and international visitors.

2. Global Fusion and Creative Dishes

Fusion cuisine continues to thrive in Seoul. Chefs are experimenting by blending Korean flavors with international dishes—think bulgogi tacos, kimchi arancini, or gochujang pasta. This trend caters to a diverse, globalized audience and reflects the city's openness to culinary experimentation.

3. Elevated Street Food

Street food in Seoul is going upscale. Classic snacks like tteokbokki (spicy rice cakes) are being reinvented with luxury ingredients such as truffle oil or wagyu beef. Gourmet corn dogs and artisanal hotteok (sweet pancakes) are also trending, especially among younger consumers and tourists seeking Instagram-worthy eats.

4. Technology-Driven Dining

Technology is transforming the food experience. AI-powered kiosks that suggest meals based on personal preferences, AR menus that provide interactive visuals, and smart kitchens that streamline prep and cooking are becoming more common. Some restaurants even offer virtual reality experiences that immerse diners in Korean culinary culture.

5. Sustainability and Local Ingredients

Sustainable dining is increasingly important. Restaurants are embracing local, seasonal ingredients and minimizing food waste. Eco-friendly packaging and reusable containers are also more widely used. There is renewed interest in regional specialties like Andong jjimdak and Jeonju bibimbap, which celebrate Korea’s diverse culinary heritage.

6. Social Dining and Experiential Food Culture

Dining in Seoul is evolving into a social and experiential activity. Pop-up restaurants, chef collaborations, and themed dining events are popular, turning meals into interactive cultural experiences. Community-based dining, where people gather to share food and stories, is also making a comeback.

Great News for iPhone Users in Korea – You Can Now Use T-money with Apple Wallet! 🍎📱🚌

If you're planning a trip to Korea and using an iPhone, here's some exciting news: Apple Pay now supports T-money, Korea’s go-to transportation card! That means you can simply tap your iPhone or Apple Watch to ride the subway, buses, and even make purchases at convenience stores—no need to carry a separate T-money card.

Previously, only Samsung and Android users could use their phones to pay for transportation with T-money. But as of early 2025, Apple users can now register and use a digital T-money card directly through the T-money GO app. Once added to Apple Wallet, you’re good to go—just double-click the side button and tap to pay. No more fumbling for cash or reloading physical cards.

💡 How to set it up:

Download the T-money GO app from the App Store.

Follow the prompts to add a digital T-money card.

Top up using your international credit card (Visa/MasterCard accepted).

Add the card to Apple Wallet and start tapping!

This update is a game-changer for tourists—especially since many ticket machines only take Korean cards or cash. Now, you can reload your card with ease and breeze through transport like a local. Just remember: your iPhone needs to support Apple Pay + NFC (iPhone 8 and above should be fine).

Korea’s public transport is already super efficient—and with T-money on your iPhone, it just got even smoother.

📌Travel Tip for Korea | Cash vs. “Cashless” Payments 🇰🇷💳💸

Before coming to Korea, I thought it was a completely cashless society—just bring a credit card and you're good to go, right? Turns out... not exactly!

Yes, you can use cards pretty much everywhere in convenience stores, malls, and cafes. But once you head to traditional markets, street food stalls, or small local shops, it’s a different story. Many of them only accept cash or bank transfers—not card payments.

And when Koreans say “cashless,” they often mean things like Kakao Pay or instant mobile bank transfers, which require a Korean bank account. As a tourist, you likely won’t have access to those options.

So if you’re planning to explore places like Gwangjang Market, Tongin Market, or local night markets, it’s super important to carry some cash—especially ₩1,000 and ₩10,000 bills.

💡Pro tip: Some places offer a little discount if you pay cash. Don’t be shy to smile and say “깎아 주세요” (kkakka juseyo), which means “can you give me a discount?”

Also, currency exchange is easy in tourist areas like Myeongdong, Hongdae, and around Seoul Station—rates are usually pretty decent.

Moral of the story: Bring both a credit card and cash to stay stress-free! Don’t let the phrase “cashless society” fool you like it did me 😂

Have you been to Naksan Park in Seoul?

If you’re looking for a spot to chill, enjoy some nature, and get a great view of the city, this is definitely a place you should check out.

Naksan Park is located near Hyehwa Station (Line 4), and it's a wonderful place for a walk, a picnic, or just some peace and quiet away from busy city life. The park is on Naksan Mountain, which isn’t very high (about 125 m), so it’s a nice and easy walk up.

One of the best things about this park is the view from the top — you can see the Seoul city skyline, Namsan Tower, and even the old city wall that runs through the park. It’s especially beautiful during sunset or at night when the city starts to light up. 🌇

Tip: bring your camera! The view from Naksan is a popular spot for photographers and tourists who want to capture the perfect city view.

If you’re in Seoul and want a break from all the busy sights, I highly recommend adding Naksan Park to your itinerary. It’s a lovely spot to relax, reflect, and appreciate a different side of the city. 🌲❤️

🇰🇷 Korea's Monsoon Season: What to Expect in July & August 🌧️

If you're in Korea during July and August, get ready for the jangma (장마) season — Korea’s annual monsoon period. Usually lasting from late June to late July, and sometimes spilling into early August, this season brings heavy rainfall, high humidity, and frequent thunderstorms.

It’s not all gloomy, though. The rain often comes in bursts, meaning there are still sunny breaks between downpours. Streets turn glossy with reflections, and the air feels fresh after a rain. It’s a great time to enjoy a cozy café, catch up on reading, or watch the rain while sipping on hot tea.

Still, be prepared! Always carry an umbrella or lightweight raincoat, and wear shoes that can handle wet sidewalks. Watch out for sudden showers and occasional flooding in low-lying areas. Also, mold and humidity can be an issue indoors, so keep your space ventilated.

Farmers welcome this season, as it's crucial for rice and other crops.
